We met Nick at the Herndon Skate Park, with the idea of a sequencing project. Usually, sequencing images are done with overlaying multiple images to convey motion or a narrative, however, Frank used multiple flashes to create a sequencing strobe effect in a single image.

On Frank’s recent journey to New York to shoot a wedding at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, he took the opportunity to capture memorable city shots in infrared. Frank stayed at the New York Athletics Club overlooking Central Park where he captured the symbiosis of the urban and the natural, juxtaposing skyscrapers and strikingly textured trees and paths.

Further through Central Park South Frank captured storefronts of high end retailers bringing a strong sense of layering through varying depth of display windows and store interiors and combining reflections of the city through glass.

It’s undeniable how much history every fragment and frame of New York oozes, including the Atlas Statue in front of The Rockefeller Center, which Frank also shot from behind with a view of St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Frank’s series of infrareds have a strong focus on populated cityscapes, and juxtaposed play of light to create balanced and dynamic compositions with strong variation in tone, texture, and depth.

The Second Chance Act Conference at the Wardman Park Marriott was a great event in DC. The Justice Center, supported by the Bureau of Justice and the Department of Justice, came together with figures from the Department of Labor to discuss options for recidivism, and the possibilities for repeat offenders.

Topics like Reducing Barriers to Successful Reentry, Engaging Families and Positive Support Networks for Reentering Adults, and Trauma-Based Approaches to Reentry, were discussed at length. It was heart-warming to see the government wanting to solve the problem at the core by counseling, and re-entry programs.

We’ve come across this image, taken in 1983 by James Gillam, of the Discovery space shuttle just before takeoff. Tomorrow, Discovery will depart the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and will be landing in Dulles International Airport to be moved to Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy Center for permanent display on the 19^th. Frank and the team will be attending the shuttle’s arrival at Dulles tomorrow and we’re excited.

Frank fell in love with photograms, in a previous life working in the dark room. Using Mann Ray’s pioneering style, Frank combined the classic and modern to recreate the nostalgic darkroom feeling. Frank uses layers of physical materials and multiple flashes to capture unique textures and alternative effects. His process creates one of a kind, unique images in the camera’s eye.

Winter rain in New York, cannot stop us. We hit the streets with vintage film cameras like the Roleiflex GX 2.8 and Voightlander Prominent with a Nokton 1.5 50mm and Illford 3200 high speed film.

We have been working on three after-hours film projects. Our images have begun to take shape in our film department; processed with regular chemicals, and scanned using the Nikon Super CoolScan 8000ED. We are definitely delving into the alternative and mixed-processes of photography.
